Motorcycle Dream Garages de Lee Klancher

Descripción - Críticas Klancher has created a work which is guaranteed to fascinate wrenches of all stripes and make them green with envy at the same time. In fact, when I took the book down to the shop, where I am employed, I almost had to engage in physical combat to regain possession of it from my co-workers. As a long time editor at Motorbooks Klancher has knowledge of his subject matter which is truly impressive, but I never felt like he was beating me over the head with it. It is also obvious that he is a true motor-head and loves sharing his passion and insights with others. If you have ever spent time spinning wrenches on bikes or dreamed of building your own custom garage or shop this book is a must have...Examiner dot com, March, 2010...Those of us who inhabit garage world need books like this to remind us we re not alone in our obsession, that it is ok to lust after a brick or concrete, or timber framed box to house motorcycles. Inside Klancher s book even the casual glancer will see work and storage spaces to inspire redesigns, cause envy and provide motivation for that remodel of the garage you d always planned. There are vast, climate controlled, operating theatre clean workshops crammed with immaculate machines and all the accessories that go with such obsessions but there are also obviously working workshops with machine tools, benches, spanners, files, bits of metal, parts and machines being fettled and all types of garages in between the two extremes. Klancher is obviously just as lost to the idyll as the rest of us and has sought out 17 examples of garage heaven though how many he had to discard to whittle down his choice to this tiny number isn t mentioned for our delight. Your workspace may be a tin box like mine or a timber shed like a colleague has but within these pages are kindred souls who ve taken their spaces to the max... try not to drool on the pictures. --Old Bike Mart, October 2009Monark 125 Montessa Cappra Penton Berkshire Parilla 250cc 'Wildcat Scrambler' Greeves White/Csepal 250cc Tornado Scrambler Hodaka Super Rat Bultaco El Bandito 360 Maico MC125, GS 400 Honda CR250M Elsinore Suzuki TM250 Norton Cosworth Challenge Wood-Norton flat track racer Raleigh, Baker, Royal Enfield, James, N.U.T. 1919 Cleveland 1928 Ravat 1929 Peugeot 1917 Douglas Cyclone Board Track Racer ($520,000) 1957 Moto Guzzi V-8 Mark III 'Captain America' Easy Rider replica Husqvarna 500cc Twin 'Baja Invader' BSA Gold Star Brough Superior Darmah Ducati Mike Hailwood Replica Vincent Black Shadow Megola (With five cylinders in the front wheel!) George Hood s 'Geezer Rider.'(He calls it 'Henry Fonda s chopper.') FDNY Dream Bike The bikes live in shops, homes and museums that range from Jay Leno s 'Big Dog Garage' to Mike and Nuri Wernick s 'Rising Wolf Garage.' Lee Klancher takes you coast to coast and visits secret locales that are completely off the motorcycle radar and cannot be found on any map. This well written and beautifully photographed book is a two-wheeled treasure trove. --Speed TV, November, 2009...The text and photos are by Lee Klancher, who built a garage bigger than his house in 2004 and ended up writing several books about garages. (Klancher has a lifestyle most of us would dream about, mixing motorcycles, travel journalism and camera gear, and making a living writing books and for magazines.) The seventeen chapters each cover a different garage, from private collections to slightly shabby workshops. On the cover is Roger Goldammer s outrageous Goldmember custom, but most of the bikes inside the book are older and less ostentatious. My favorite venues are New York s Rising Wolf Garage, a place for riders to park and wrench on their machines, and on the opposite coast, Yoshi Kosaka s Garage Company store. As Klancher notes, 'Quite often the physical spaces defy logic from a dollars-per-square-foot sense, but they make all kinds of sense in terms of being places to pursue your passion.' Such garages may be out of our league, but you can get a copy of Motorcycle Dream Garages from 'all good bookstores', as they say -- --bikeex dot com, November 2009Written by Lee Klancher and published by Motorbooks, it includes some fantastic images of out of this world garages and bike collections. it includes a sneak peak at talk show host Jay leno's impressive machines as well as the less salubrious but equally impressive collections of private enthusiasts in America and Europe... --Used Bike Guide, December, 2009... Reseña del editor You want to be on your motorcycle on the open road--but if you can’t, then the next best place is the garage. There old bikes are restored, wild custom come to life, and friendships are made of beer, b.s., and bruised knuckles. These are the garages where this book takes you--from the old firehouse to the lavishly finished tin shed to the plain old two-car attached structure harboring the treasured bike while the family car sits out in the weather. Motorcycle Dream Garages opens the doors to sixteen palaces for two-wheeled work and play, among them a secret one in Chicago housing over one hundred rare and collectible bikes at a location known only to members of an underground club; a converted firehouse in St. Paul; a marble palace in Washington DC; and a variety of luxury motorcycle garages owned by racers and celebrities both in the US and Europe. To create Motorcycle Dream Garages, author Lee Klancher traveled across North America to give readers an inside look at the homes of some legendary motorcycles and their well-known collectors. Many of these spaces have never been photographed for publication before, and a few are secret havens that would only allow access on the condition that the owners’ identities be kept secret. These anonymous hideouts include a large space in Southern California that houses a collection of exotic high-performance motorcycles, as well as a New York warehouse that is shared by an eclectic group of 10 motorcycle collectors and builders. The less-secretive garages encompass many great motorcycling stories, including Rising Wolf Garage, which housed the famous FDNY Dream Bike—the CB750 that was bought by a firefighter who was later killed in the September 11, 2001, World Trade Center attacks. Klancher also focuses his lens on the space where Chris Cosentino designed and built an innovative race chassis and later built a complete motorcycle for Moto2 competition in the FIM Grand Prix series. Other profiles include the garage of Hollywood stunt motorcycle rider and race champion John Hateley, the dining room that is home to the world’s most valuable motorcycle, and an $8 million place in the hometown of builder Roger Goldammer. Contraportada Fantastic Spaces. Outrageous Bikes. Motorcycles live in luxurious palaces, lavishly outfitted warehouses, and gritty shops. Motorcycle Dream Garages takes you inside these private enclaves for a sneak peak into the homes of some of the world’s coolest motorcycles. You’ll tour a secret 10,000-square-foot warehouse in New York that houses the motorcycle workshops of 10 of the nation’s finest motorcycle racers, collectors, and builders. The book also highlights a private collection housed in southern California that includes more than 25 one-off customs and highly modified sportbikes—not to mention a jet-powered motorcycle. You’ll step back in time to see the homes and shops of dedicated enthusiasts like vintage Harley-Davidson customizer George Hood (who builds eight-valve heads in his garage) and Robert Genise, the owner of John’s Cycle Center in Queens, a race shop that pre-dates the town’s last World’s Fair. Featuring the brilliant photography and lively prose of Lee Klancher, this book is a dream come true for all two-wheel gearheads.
